Imperatives/Commands

This lesson teaches you how to form commands, such as requesting someone to do something.

Suffixes for Commands

  • Informal: drop the suffix -moq

  • Formal: add the suffing -ing to the end of the verb after consonants and -ng after vowels

    • For plural, add -lar

    • Ex. o'tirmoq - to sit

      • o'tir - informal

      • o'tiring - formal

      • o'tiringlar - formal plural

  • To negative a command, add -ma to the verb stem

    • Ex. o'tirmang

  • Remember that Uzbek follows Subject + Object + Verb

    • Ex. Kitobni eching - Open the book

-ni

  • The accusative case ending -ni is added to the direct object of the verb

  • If the object is specific, add -ni. If it isn't, do not.

  • Ex. Kitobni oling! - Take the book! (a specific book)

    • Kitob sotib! - Buy a book! (any book)
